How to Use WD My Cloud as Media Server for Kodi 17+ Method 1 UPnP

  • Open a web browser and login to your WD My Cloud device
    • OS X: http://wdmycloud.local (if you have renamed your device then change wdmycloud to whatever you have named it)
    • Windows: http://wdmycloud/
  • Login to your account
  • Select Settings
  • Select Media
  • Turn on DLNA Media Server (can take a short while)
  • Open Kodi
  • Select the corresponding category for what you are going to add from the WD My Cloud device - Movies if you are adding Movies, Music if you are adding Music files, Music Videos if you are adding Music Videos, TV Shows if you are adding Tv Shows
  • Select Files
  • Select Add (whatever type of media you are adding)...
  • Select Browse
  • Select UPnP devices
  • Select your WD My Cloud device
  • Select the Type of Media you will be adding and navigate to where those files are stored on your device
  • Select OK to save the location
  • If you wish to rename the source to make it easier to find then you can do that now and select OK when finished
  • You will now see your WD My Cloud listed in your media files and you can stream content from your My Cloud
  • If you open the Context Menu you will see a range of features you can also use

  • Open Kodi
  • Select Movies or if you are adding Music select Music, if adding Music Videos select Music Videos, if adding TV Shows then select TV Shows
  • Select Enter files section
  • Select Add Videos...
  • Select Browse
  • Select Windows network (SMB)
  • Select WORKGROUP
  • Select The Name of your WD My Cloud Device
  • Navigate to where you store your content on your WD My Cloud device and select OK when you are inside the directory where the content is stored.
  • On the next screen select This directory contains
  • Select Movies
  • If you content is stored in separate directories in your Movies directory then select Movies are in a separate folders that match the movie title if they aren't then just leave that section unchecked as it is
  • Select OK
  • Select Yes when asked Do you want to refresh information for all items within this path. Kodi will now scan that path using the Movie Database. Allow the scan to finish
  • When you go back to your Home Screen and select Movies your content will be indexed and available to stream.
  • Each time you add content to your media library it will be scanned and added during library updates.
